Meet Deacon Artie

 

 

Deacon Arthur Candido

Deacon Arthur Candido grew up in Queens, where he attended St. Luke Elementary School in Whitestone and Holy Cross High School in Flushing , graduating in 1978. He attended Queens College of the City University of New York where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1982.

Deacon Art worked for many years in the scientific and technical book publishing industry. He moved to Port Washington in 1988, became a parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima and immediately began ministering as an usher and as a lector. Here he would meet his wife Jane, who too was actively involved in ministry at OLF. They were married in 1992 at Our Lady of Fatima.

In 2004, Deacon Art answered the call to serve more deeply by entering formation for the diaconate. He was ordained in May of 2007 and continues to serve as deacon to the community here at Fatima . In May of 2008, Deacon Art received his M.A. in Theology from the Seminary of Immaculate Conception in Huntington . Deacon Art leads many of the ministries at Fatima including the Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministry to the Homebound and Community activities. He teaches the New Testament to parishioners involved in continuing Adult Faith Formation, and he is the Pastoral staff member on the Community Commission of Fatima's Leadership Team.

He is the manager of Payroll Operations for the Diocese of Rockville Centre. He and Jane have two children, Christina and Alex.
